The French River Delta — Self Portrait, 2014, oil on linen, 60 x 66 inches
The French River Delta — Self Portrait
You are looking west down the Pickerel River and the French River. They
meet in Hartley Bay and the French runs south through two outlets. Yet
another outlet runs west through the Voyager Channel, where the Bad
River branches off and runs through various channels to Georgian Bay.
The Voyager reaches the bay near Grondine Point. In the far distance
you can see the highest hills of the La Cloche Range. Beside the self
portrait I have included an image of myself sketching on the
Fingerboard Islands and closer to the horizon I have painted my artist
friend Doug Moore, sketching. This series which started over Port
Severn now ends with the artist looking back south over the bay.
